Fiscal Year 2006 CSP Watershed (Mud)

The Mud Watershed 8-Digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) sub-basin is 418,300 acres in Northeast South Dakota.  The watershed is located in the counties of Marshall, Brown, Day, and Spink.

The sub-basin is over 95 percent privately owned.  The dominant land use is cropland consisting of over 332,900 acres or 80 percent of the watershed.  Cropland is primarily used to produce corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, and sunflowers.  Alfalfa and grass hay are also produced on cropland.  Other dominant land uses include pastureland at four percent and rangeland, six percent.

Conservation assistance is provided by four NRCS service centers and Conservation Districts.

CSP Sign-up and Application Process

Adobe Acrobat DocumentSign-up Notice (1.82 MB)
The CSP sign-up will be conducted in the Mud watershed for a six week period beginning February 13 until March 31, 2006.

The sign-up process is different than previous USDA conservation programs.  Participants are required to conduct a self-assessment to determine on their own whether or not they are likely eligible for the program.

South Dakota CSP Fact Sheet (214 KB)

Before taking the self-assessment, NRCS recommends producers read the South Dakota Fact Sheet.  This fact sheet is designed to help you to determine if you may be eligible for participation in the CSP.  If the answers are "yes" to the questions that apply to the land to be enrolled, then the producer would potentially be eligible to participate in the CSP.

Self Assessment

To complete the Self-Assessment on-line, go to CSP Self-Assessment.

The Self-Assessment also is available for download.

The following document requires Adobe Acrobat.
