Job Hunting Tips
The best resume in the world, or the strongest college transcript with the
highest GPA, won't get you in the door if you don't follow through and submit a
complete application package. Many applicants submit an electronic resume
and hurriedly go on to look for another job. But that's not all there
is to it. Each vacancy announcement lists the minimum information
required. Our advice to you is to print out the entire vacancy
announcement so that you will be sure to see the information required for each
position. Here are the basics:
For A Job Filled Under A Delegated Examining Unit Announcement (those are
vacancy announcements with numbers like NRCS 07-SD-007B)
Application packets must include all of the following in order to be
considered for this position:
- Resume or completion of the Optional Form 612
- Responses to the KSA's
- Copy or certified college transcripts
- DD 214 and/or SF15 (IF you are claiming Veteran's Preference)
For A Job Filled Under A Merit Promotion Announcement (those are
vacancy announcements with numbers like NRCS 07-SD-007A)
Application packets must include all of the following in order to be
considered for this position:
- Resume or completion of the Optional Form 612
- SF 50
- AD 435A and AD 435 Performance Appraisal, no later than 15 months old
- Responses to the KSA's*
- Copy or certified college transcript(s)
*If the job is being filled
through Quickhire, you will answer questions online rather than submit KSA
statements.
If we do not receive all the required documents by the closing date of the
vacancy announcement, your application will be marked as incomplete and you will
not be considered for the position. Our advice to you is to print out the
entire vacancy announcement so that you will be sure to see the information
required for each position.
